Lines are a powerful element in photography. Some consider it the most powerful element. Understanding the meaning of lines in your photo composition allows you to control the eye of the viewer, create a mood, or add a theme to your work.

Lines can lead and direct the eye to a focal point. They can also create depth and perspective.
Notice the diagonal lines in the image below that lead your eye into the image.
Lines can create a pattern and a mood.
